Product Praise: Fresh Produce Clothes

Nothing says summer like sunshine, iced tea, sun kissed shoulders and the perfect little sun dress. That is why I am so excited to tell you about Fresh Produce Clothes.

Fresh Produce is a fantastic website filled with coastal inspired clothing in bright beautiful colors. Plus the majority of their clothes are made right here in the good ol' US of A! With an assortment of easy to wear clothes I have no doubt that you will find the perfect dress for a walk on the beach, dinner on the water or an outdoor summer wedding.

It took me awhile to choose a dress for this review. There were so many choices but I knew that I wanted to go with something sleeveless and knee length. It was a really difficult decision and after hours of trying to decide I finally picked the Impromptu Dress in Meadow.

I was pleasantly surprised when the dress arrived. It is a bit brighter than I had anticipated but I have grown to love the color. The fabric is extra soft and very light. My favorite feature is the gathered sides in the bust area and the generous sized straps (enough to cover a normal bra strap). I ordered a medium which fits well but a small probably would have worked better. I am always just in between sizes.

I have gotten several compliments on the dress and have worn it in a whole variety of situations including a church concert, the pool, a dinner out with friends and as a comfy change of clothes during my 24 hour relay race. It really is the perfect casual dress for any situation.

The Fresh Produce website is the perfect place for all your summer fashion shopping. Hesitant about shopping online? Check out the the store locator to find a store near you. I am going to be in St. Augustine this weekend and can't wait to go into one of their stores. I might even have to pick up The BFF Top that I like so much.

Tips to Take Your Kids to a Creek (Featuring SwimZip)

If you have been reading my blog for awhile, you might remember our very scary experience with my son while we were walking in the creeks at Old Man's Cave last year. He got stuck in the waterfall flow and had to be pulled out by a stranger. It scared us both to tears and still reverberates in my heart when we head out to our local creeks.
There are many wonderful places in the Columbus area that offer my kids the experience to go "creeking." There is a tiny creek behind a local playground that is perfect for beginners. The water is only a few inches deep and has mostly a soft sand bottom.

Then there are more serious creeks, such as the one at our local metro park where the water can get up to 2 feet deep in some areas. The fun thing about going to the creeks is that they almost always include a little hike and the chance to some significant hands on science exploration.

If you have never gone down in to a creek with your kids, I highly encourage you to do so. I have put together some tips to help you make your first experience a safe and happy one.

  1. Wear appropriate clothing. Creeks are wet and the chances of your little one getting very wet are extremely high. I suggest quick dry shorts and shirts for everyone.
  2. Wear appropriate shoes. The bottoms to creeks are often rocky and slippery. Use water shoes to protect little feet without adding weight. That way if your little one wanders into water that is too deep, he won't struggle to get out.
  3. Apply sunscreen. Don't be fooled by the dense coverage of the trees and shrubs. Even though you can't feel it, it is still there.
  4. Bring Bug Spray. Bugs are plentiful in the dense woods. Make sure you use insect repellent and check for ticks before you get into your car.
  5. Stock up in Science Supplies. Buckets, fish nets, magnifying glasses, small shovels and clear plastic tubs are vital to enjoying the creek. We have a large floating magnifier that you can just put over the water to see what is under it. The kids love to explore the rocks.
  6. Ask the Park Ranger. Many parks have programs and park rangers who will talk to your kids about the types of water life you might come across. Some even have kid friendly brochures.
  7. Set Boundaries: We always have a set boundaries about how far in the creek we can go. This keeps everyone safe and easy to find.

Last week when we went to a new creek and waterfall, I dressed Lu in her new SwimZip, Ruffle Me Pretty UV Protected swim suit. This adorable purple ruffle swim suit is easy to get on and has a UV 50+ block. Perfect for swim lessons, the pool, beach or just playing in the creek.
