As part of our quest to live healthier my family has been trying to figure out activities that we can do together. We often find ourselves going different our ways and doing different things to match the kids or our own skill set. Or we end up going to the YMCA and just putting the kids in the nursery. We really wanted something to do as a family so that we had time to spend together and we were demonstrating good physical fitness to our kids.
Now we all know that when you have a very active and busy 5 year old paired with a getting to know her own body 1.5 year old, there is a big physical gap there. At the beginning of summer Ephraim had learned to ride his bike without training wheels [that is another blog post for sure] and we had been talking about getting my bike (it has been in the garage for 10 years) tuned up. So finally we have stopped talking and done it! We tuned up my bike, got an InStep trailer off of Craigslist for the bargain price of $40 (it was literally *new* in the box) and bought Chris is own shiny new bike.
This past Sunday we headed out on our first family bike ride to a local trail. I really like the idea of trails because I don’t have to worry about cars and traffic and staying on the sidewalks. There is a nice playground near the parking area and the kids were able to play safely while we got everything situated. The biggest challenged we faced was getting the bikes on and off of the car attachment.
We rode about 4 miles that day and really had a great time! Lu enjoyed the ride with books, snacks and a drink. She would say “wheeee” over and over again while kicking her feet.
We all need to build up some stamina but I know this is going to be a great activity for our family this fall. I can’t wait to check out all of the other great places in our area with bike trails.
Do you bike? Where is your favorite place to go?

Hi Melanie,
I found you on a Friday Blog Hop list. Very nice pics. Looks like you all had a lot of fun. I agree bicycling is great exercise and a fun activity for the whole family. The trails make it so much safer and offer great scenery. I’m following your site.

Thanks for coming by my blog. I’m following you back. Nice to meet another Christian mommy. If you like to read Christian books you can get them free at Booksneeze.com (I know that site sounds weird) in return for a review. I was able to read “Outlive Your Life” by Max Lucado before it was released today. I really enjoyed that book. Just a thought.
Take care!
